First off, I am a very technical user. I've built PC's in the past, work in technology at work, etc.

I thought I would gamble and not buy the HP brand replacement battery. This particular battery was half the price despite being the same capacity. Now... usually I know better, but I've had good luck with "non-brand" batteries for other devices in the past, so I decided to give it a try.

This battery is cheap for a reason. While it is a perfect fit for my HP Pavilion DV7, the battery life is not good. In fact, within several weeks it was less than my year-and-a-half old original HP battery. Now (a couple months later), the battery discharges quickly, and when charging the computer flashes the charging light indicating a bad battery. HP's battery test (hit ESC while booting to get into boot options, then go to Diagnostics) indicates the battery is bad. I'm glad I pulled my original HP battery out of the battery recycle bin at work! It's going back into the laptop and this piece of junk will be recycled instead. Lesson learned.

Save yourself some money and aggravation and buy the original equipment from HP, or a better-built equivalent. I now have to do just that, in addition to having blown the cash on this battery as well.

Note to some who think they should get four or five hours from this size battery (original from HP): The HP Pavilion DV7, as well as others of its size and class, are desktop replacement laptops. They are not meant for long battery life, and don't use all the components that would give you that. They are large, heavy, powerful, and have big, bright, power-sucking screens. Don't expect more than a couple hours even when new... that's not their strength or purpose. They are not travel companions for flights or even campus... they replace a desktop computer and monitor with a space-saving device, and are meant to be plugged in for optimal use. Also, don't compare most of them to a MacBook Pro: The MB Pro has a much larger battery internally, so it's not an just comparison, a different class (including build quality and cost) of laptop entirely.
