First off, anything sold and shipped by Amazon, should give you the confidence to buy any product due to Amazon's customer service. In past experiences, their support was great, money could always be returned etc. Shipping was fast.
The reason why I rated this product 4 stars is due to the annoying way you need to get your sony vaio to recognize the battery. Yes, you do need to install a Bios update/patch provided by Lenmar in order for the laptop to recognize and charge the battery. The battery comes with poor written instructions and a mini DVD that contains the Bios patch. The problem I had was that the mini DVD it came with WAS BLANK! it had nothing on it, in the package also came with a dropbox link in case your Vaio's DVD player doesn't work. So I tried to download the patch using that link, the software patch seemed to work at first, then it came down to finding an "activation key" witch contains 32 letters and numbers in small text all bunched up together making it hard to distinguish an "8" from a "B" or a "0" from an "O".
None of the Reviews here on Amazon describe how they got their patch to work so ill provide the easiest, most hassle free solution:

YOU DO NOT NEED TO HAVE YOUR OLD BATTERY CHARGED TO 20%, I DIDNT HAVE ONE AT ALL!!!!

!) forget the DVD, activation key altogether!
2) Go to http://www.lenmar.com/folders/sony_bios_update_for_battery.htm
3) Download the SonyBiospatch ( in a .exe file), open the "instructions manual" (in a .pdf).
4) follow the instructions on the .pdf document, on the "instruction manual" scroll down to find another set of instructions for those of you who have no original battery. Follow the top set of instructions if you DO have your original battery and it can charge to 20%, or follow the second set of instructions if you DO NOT.
5)After the patch is installed the laptop will reboot by itself and once its back on, your Vaio will recognize the new battery!

no files to be unzipped or long activation keys to enter!!

In conclusion I'd recommend this battery because of its warranty, Sony has discontinued the VGP--BPS8 battery and this might be a decent alternative. Follow the simple instructions carefully before attempting to install the patch, and you should be set to go. Feel free to drop a comment or reply.
